Buy the two-book Stories Boxed Set first and the five-novel set second. Orbit’s Witcher sets split the series at the line between short stories and novels, and the stories come first. Together they cover seven books. Neither set includes the stand-alone Season of Storms.
This is desk research from Hachette Book Group’s listings, checked on November 7, 2026. We have not handled either set. We give no prices.

Stories Boxed Set
Hachette lists The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny as the two story collections that inspired season one of the Netflix series. Its description of the character: “Follow Geralt as he battles monsters, demons and prejudices alike.” Hachette’s series page calls The Last Wish the first chapter of the series and Sword of Destiny the second collection of adventures. At 768 pages, it is the lighter commitment and the right set for anyone who wants to know whether Sapkowski’s tone suits them.

The five-novel Boxed Set
The five novels are the saga proper: Blood of Elves, The Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of Swallows and The Lady of the Lake, in new cover designs, at 2,208 pages. This set assumes the reader knows the characters from the stories or the show; the novels pick up the long-running plot rather than re-introducing it. It is the better purchase for a reader who is already committed.

What is not in either set
Orbit’s series page lists Season of Storms as a stand-alone adventure that does not need a fixed position in the sequence. It is not part of either box set. If you want every Witcher book from Orbit, buy it separately. The page also lists audiobook “Booktrack” editions; those are audio versions with a musical soundtrack, not a different text.
Which to buy
- Fan of the Netflix series, new to the books: the stories set. Hachette ties it directly to season one.
- Gift for a reader who has the stories: the five-novel set.
- Gift for someone who knows nothing about the series: the stories set; the five-novel set has a gap if they have not read the first two books.
- Buying both: you get the two story collections and the five saga novels, with the stand-alone Season of Storms left to add.
Order and screen tie-in
Read the stories set first, then the novels in the order listed in the table, with Season of Storms whenever you like. The Netflix series is the screen tie-in; Hachette connects the stories set to its first season. We do not have a stand-alone Witcher reading-order page yet; our fantasy picks for political-intrigue readers mention the Witcher among other series. For other gift sets, see our box set gift guide .
