Choose by how many Hunger Games novels the reader should own. The two paperback sets hold the original trilogy plus The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The hardcover set is the only one Scholastic describes as “all five of Suzanne Collins’s Hunger Games novels,” so it is the one to buy for a completist or a gift that should be final.

This is desk research from Scholastic’s own listings, checked on November 7, 2026. We have not handled any of these sets and make no claims about print quality. We give no prices because they move; check them on the Amazon listing.

Four Book Collection (ISBN 9781339042657)

Scholastic’s summary says this “beautiful paperback box set includes all three books in Suzanne Collins’s internationally bestselling Hunger Games trilogy together with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” One note: the page’s own “in this pack” list shows only two titles, which looks like a listing glitch, so rely on the summary text and confirm the contents on the Amazon listing before you buy. It is the plainest and most portable option.

The Deluxe Collection (ISBN 9781546171904)

The same four novels, which Scholastic says “are available now in a special edition deluxe box set.” The page lists 1,712 pages and paperback books; it does not itemize the deluxe features beyond that wording, so we will not guess at foil or edges. Choose it over the plain four-book set only if the recipient will notice a special-edition package.

The 5-book hardcover set (ISBN 9781546178774)

Scholastic’s page describes “all five of Suzanne Collins’s Hunger Games novels in one box set,” at 2,112 pages in hardcover, with a recommended audience of grade six and up. Its description says the books cover the beginning of the Games, the second Quarter Quell and the events leading to the conclusion. That wording matches the two prequel novels, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping, plus the original trilogy. This is the set for someone who wants the complete story in one purchase.

Which one to buy

  • New reader who has only seen the films: the four-book paperback set. It covers everything most film fans will recognize, in the cheapest format.
  • Teen or young adult gift: the deluxe paperback set, if you want a gift-ready box without paying for hardcovers.
  • Completist, or someone who already owns the trilogy: the five-book hardcover. If they own the trilogy in paperback, check what they have first, since this set overlaps with those books.
  • Younger readers: Scholastic recommends the series for grade six and up, so treat these as middle-school and above, and check the content yourself for a child under that.

Order and screen tie-in

The trilogy is meant to be read first; the two newer books are set earlier in the story’s timeline, and they read best after the trilogy for a first-time reader. We do not have a stand-alone Hunger Games reading-order page; our Catching Fire book-versus-movie guide covers the second book and has more on this series’ sets. The novels were adapted as a film series, including The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For other gift sets, see our box set gift guide .
